A Sting in The Woods

One of the Heads favourite pastimes is bird watching, birding or ‘twitching’ as it’s known in the USA. On this same fine summers afternoon the 6th formers are engaged in a cross country run. All except three lads that is, who decide it’s a great time to bunk off and enjoy a forbidden smoke.

The inevitable clash occurs deep in the woods where Beecham (Damien Drake) Kline (new Sting Lad Corin Fischer) and Smith (new StingLad Billy Rohm) are caught red handed bunking off by the Headmaster.  Breaking the sacrosanct rule of no smoking is unforgivable and leaving the set route to do this is equally so!

The Head decides to deal with the miscreants there and then. First off each lad gets a bare bottom spanking, the hard slaps ringing round the trees and certainly removing any more chance of bird watching! For Kline and Smith it’s their first time so this introduction to violent nature comes as quite a shock.

Not happy that they will remember this punishment sufficiently the boys are then given a scout knife and ordered to individually cut suitable switches each for personal punishment. After completing this disciplinary woodcraft task the trio must endure the burning sting of each other’s chosen switch.

The freshly cut whippy instruments are bought down with a swish by the head and each cross country runway feels the biting sting of nature’s very own instrument of correction. As the stripes are laid on they all know if they deviate from the route again whilst on a cross country run they will certainly be in for another sting in the woods.
